Metadata-based Provider Selection in an Open Market Environment

The success of the Internet and the development of worldwide electronic commerce opens the way to completely new market structures. However, finding the most appropriate provider for a given demand continues to be a major problem. This is especially true if the regarded product is information. The paper describes an approach for reliable provider selection based on metadata. Main concern is the design of a trader for an open market. The paper also shows a realization of this approach in an agentbased infrastructure for a market of scientific literature.
